Introduction & Purpose
Achieving predictable output in industrial 3D printing requires strict control over every variable across the entire manufacturing lifecycle. Repeatability is the cornerstone of trust in additive manufacturing, ensuring that every part in a large production run mirrors the validated master. These protocols are designed to address the administrative and technical gaps, known as handoff failures, that occur when critical information is lost between design, slicing, and machine operation.
Handoff failures typically emerge from missing documentation or assumptions made at the machine level that conflict with design intent. By standardizing how technical data transitions between departments, we can effectively eliminate scrapped parts resulting from incorrect orientation, improper support placement, or material lot mismatches. This regulation establishes the mandatory documentation required for every handoff and the frozen profile methodology necessary for long-term repeatability.
Strategic Consistency in Batch Production
Consistency is maintained through a process we call Profile Freezing. Once a prototype reaches final acceptance, its digital environment—including exact software version, slicer settings, orientation, and material parameters—is locked. No changes are permitted during the production run without a formal engineering change order. This systematic approach ensures that even minor environmental shifts or hardware differences do not impact the mechanical integrity of the final product.
